What is an FOID card and how do I get one?

As part of the licensing requirements, all residents of Illinois are required to apply for a ‘Firearms Owner Identification’ card (aka FOID )

While other states do not require this extra step in licensing, Illinois requires applicants to take this step in receiving their CCL.

How to obtain an FOID card

Obtaining a FOID card is a very simply process!

Step 1) Fill out an online application at: http://www.shoregalleries.com/foidcardapp.pdf (if this link does not work, you can also fill out the online application from the Illinois State Police website found here: http://www.isp.state.il.us/ )

Step 2) Once you have completed your online application, print it out and attach a money order or a check for the amount of $10 to the Illinois State Police.

Step 3) Mail your application to: `     Illinois State Police – FOID Post Office Box 19233 Springfield, IL 62794-9233
